ICNE Conference Taipei May 2005

Welcome to the ICNE website

The International Centre for Nursing Ethics (ICNE) is a worldwide collaboration of researchers in nursing ethics focusing on issues of morality, professional ethics, philosophy of care, cultural and religious values, law and accountability.

The ICNE is independent of trade organisations, unions and professional associations. It has its headquarters at the University of Surrey (European Institute of Health and Medical Sciences), Guildford, UK. It was launched at the University in June 1999.

The ICNE promotes international research, development of ethics teaching, cross-cultural discussion and understanding, and ethical inter-professional and inter-agency co-operation. It runs regular conferences and seminars.

The ICNE has as its vehicle the international peer-reviewed academic journal, Nursing Ethics, published by SAGE (ISSN 0969-7330), which appears six times a year. News of ICNE developments is featured in the journal.

Human Rights and Nursing Awards 2007

In 2007 the Awards were given to Claire Bertschinger (UK) in recognition of her work as a Red Cross nurse in war zones, and especially during the famine in Ethiopia 1984 and at present in training nurses for work in tropical and resource-poor areas; and to Nurith Wagner (Israel) especially  for her work at the military checkpoints, observing and intervening in human rights situations, in particular helping Palestinian people to get medical treatments.

ICNE is now looking for nominations for the Awards in 2008.
